Witnessing the Power of Chiropractic Care: Dr. Scott Stroker’s Journey to Becoming a Chiropractor

As an undergraduate student at West Liberty State College (now West Liberty State University), I began studying biology with the intention of working in the medical field in some capacity. It was because of the misfortune of my roommate who was involved in a motor vehicle accident that I was first introduced to the field of chiropractic medicine. I witnessed firsthand the remarkable recovery my roommate made with chiropractic care, and by way of his experience, learned of the conservative and holistic approach and philosophy of chiropractic care in terms of the natural health benefits of this alternative healthcare system.

After finishing my Bachelor of Science degree in 1981, I began my studies at the National College of Chiropractic (now the National University of Health Sciences) in Lombard, Illinois.  It was there that I would meet (of course, in the library) and eventually marry, Brenda Burley, of Aberdeen, North Carolina.

Experiencing the Power of Chiropractic Care: Dr. Brenda Burley’s Journey to Becoming a Chiropractor

I grew up in a family that utilized chiropractic care so it was no surprise that my mom took me to the chiropractor at the young age of 6 after a seesaw accident at school. Experiencing firsthand the real healing power of chiropractic began a life-long belief in and use of chiropractic treatment.

As I neared graduation from my undergraduate studies at Sandhills Community College, I was trying to decide on a career choice. My mother suggested I speak with our family chiropractor and inquire about the chiropractic profession. After speaking with him I decided to attend the same college he had attended, and of course it was there, at National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois, that I met my future husband, Scott Stroker.

Burley-Stroker Chiropractic in the Sandhills

With Brenda’s strong family ties firmly rooted in North Carolina, we chose to set up our practice together in Brenda’s hometown of Aberdeen.  Burley-Stroker Chiropractic, Inc. opened its doors in 1988.  Our practice grew quickly based on a personal philosophy to treat our patients with their best interest and well-being first and foremost – and the rest will take care of itself!

Raising a family of four certainly helped grow our practice.  We became active in our church and community because of our children.  Over the span of thirty plus years, we have been involved in coaching our children’s youth sports teams, teaching catechism, volunteering as mentors and tutors to students in the public school system, creating a Christian ministry at our church, called "We Care" that provides basic necessities for underprivileged in our community – and we are not yet finished!

After many years of diligent and professional practice in Moore County, one can expect competent, experienced and compassionate care. Brenda and I are grateful for our calling as chiropractors; we enjoy treating and helping to heal our patients. We believe any success we have had is because chiropractic care is an effective healthcare option; but maybe most of all because our practice is an extension of who we are and what we care about most.
